Everything you need to know about flying from the UK to Bali.
British citizens can obtain a Visa on Arrival (VoA) at Denpasar Airport for approximately £25 (500,000 IDR), valid for 30 days. This can be extended once for another 30 days while in Bali. Simply present your UK passport (valid for at least 6 months), completed arrival card, and payment at the VoA counter.
There are no direct flights from the UK to Bali. All flights require at least one stop, typically in Singapore, Dubai, Doha, Bangkok, or Kuala Lumpur. Total travel time ranges from 16 to 22 hours depending on the airline and layover duration. Singapore Airlines via Singapore and Qatar Airways via Doha offer the fastest routes.
For the best deals, book 3-4 months in advance. The dry season (April to October) is peak time with higher prices. The wet season (November to March) offers cheaper flights and fewer crowds, though brief tropical showers are common. Avoid major holidays like Christmas, New Year, and Easter for the best prices.
London Heathrow (LHR) offers the most options with Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Thai Airways, and Garuda Indonesia. London Gatwick (LGW) may have seasonal options. Connecting flights are also available from Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, and other regional airports via hub cities.
Bali is generally very safe for tourists. The main concerns are traffic accidents (especially on scooters), petty theft, and natural hazards like strong currents at certain beaches. The FCDO advises normal precautions. Always purchase comprehensive travel insurance, register with FCDO's travel alerts, and respect local customs and temples.
No mandatory vaccinations are required for Bali from the UK. However, the NHS recommends being up-to-date with routine vaccines (tetanus, diphtheria, polio) and considering Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and Tetanus boosters. Depending on your activities, Rabies vaccination may be advised if you'll be around animals. Consult your GP or a travel clinic 6-8 weeks before departure.
